Covid-19 Guidelines for Those Attending SGT Events

(Last Updated: December 15th, 2021)

Please read both letters, written below.

Dear SGT family,

As we continue to navigate through the many changing NY State mandates regarding COVID-19, please know the SGT leadership is prayerfully and wisely trying to respect NY State requirements as well as honoring individual freedoms.

Presently, with the recent New York State requirement of mask-wearing for all indoor events, we are graciously asking you to abide by this new mandate by attending our church services and events with your mask on. We will NOT be taking temperatures or checking if you have been vaccinated.

Thank you for honoring our difficult decision and may we all continue to protect our unity as a church family as well as expressing sacrificial love toward one another.

Sincerely in Christ,

Pastor Zarlengo

SGT Church family,

The NY government, at this point, with the recent mask mandate, is not asking us to do something unethical, unbiblical, immoral, or illegal – if that were the case we would then completely divorce ourselves from being obedient to such a mandate on the basis of the example of Peter in Acts 5:29 “Peter and the other apostles answered and said: We ought to obey God rather than men.”

Otherwise, we respect Romans 13:1
“Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.”

Regarding the vaccine: we have maintained a policy of neutrality at SGT regarding the Covid vaccine. We neither discourage nor encourage the vaccine among our membership. We invite every member to exercise their own personal decision on the basis of their medical condition, doctor’s advice, religious convictions, and personal conscience.

Finally, with the recent mandate by Gov. Kathy Hochul, the leadership of SGT tries to navigate wisely and biblically through the balance of obeying a State mandate as well as honoring God and respecting personal freedoms. It is a serious and delicate balance. It is the conviction of the leadership of SGT to honor local and government regulations as long as they do not violate any biblical command from God. The wearing of a mask doesn’t land in the category of violating a direct command from God, therefore, we are in compliance as a church with this recent State mandate.

However, though it may sound contradictory, even though we are in compliance with the NY State mandate; we are not going to police it or enforce it, following in suit with our Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone.

May Christ give us wisdom, grace, courage, and the heart of unity during these challenging times.

Sincerely,
Pastor Zarlengo
